Newport Match Report
Ebbw claimed a losing bonus points to table toppers Newport in a thrilling Gwent derby on Thursday night.
The TV cameras were in town and the rugby was the best game of the season in most supporters eyes, despite the loss.
The determination and physicality matched around the park and despite two early tries for Newport via winger Jon Morris, giving the visitors the advantage.
It took biggest part of 60 minutes, but by clinging on and upping the tempo of the game, two quick tries from substitute Joe Thomas dragged the Steelmen back into the game.
Despite the best efforts of Joel Harries under the posts late on, he was deemed to have made a double movement and the game was blown up after 5 minutes of additional time, Newport taking five points, Ebbw taking 1.
The performance was much better and you can start to see the side developing under Chippy and Co, Jason said “I thought we were really good value in the second half and nobody would have had any complaints if we had won or drew.
“The bench all made an impact and we’re just looking to make sure we take our chances more.
